Mark 12:28-34
At the turn of
the 20th century, a major newspaper opined that all that will be
invented had been invented. Shortly afterward came the Wright
Brothers and Henry Ford and a burst of scientific marvels that
continues today. What drives people to invent, to innovate, to
discover news ways of thinking, doing and living? A recent book
that chronicles the habits of the worlds top 100 CEO’s says that
over half read the Bible daily.
In Chapter 12
of the Gospel of Mark, the writer tells of a debate among Jesus,
the Pharisees and the Sadducees when a teacher of the law asks
Jesus for a Reader’s Digest version of the commandments. Jesus
responds by telling the teacher to love God and love your
neighbor as yourself. From the teacher’s response one can tell
that he then be inspired to live a righteous life that benefits
others.
God’s law is
not meant to contain us but instead to liberate us. By
remembering God above all others and acting toward other people
as we would want them to act toward us we are free to seek out
better ways to serve God and all of his creation. Be inspired by
God!!!
